Albeit early types of the novel are to be found in various spots, including traditional Rome, 10th and eleventh century Japan, and Elizabethan England, the European novel is frequently said to have started with Don Quixote in 1605.
Early works of augmented anecdotal writing, or books, incorporate works in Latin like the Satyricon by Petronius (c. 50 AD), and The Golden Ass by Apuleius (c. 150 AD), works in Sanskrit, for example, the 6th or seventh century Daśakumāracarita by Daṇḍin, and in the seventh century Kadambari by Banabhatta.
